One Year Bible Reading Guide

2 Chronicles 24:1-25:28
Romans 12:1-21
Psalm 22:19-31
Proverbs 20:8-10

Verse of the day:

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

(Romans 12:2 NLT)

The way we think completely dictates our actions. For example, if you think spiders are gross, you’re going to freak out every time you see one and plead with someone to squish it. If you think of spiders as creatures that eat pesky mosquitos and centipedes (which are far scarier) you’re going to help spiders build their webs in your home! How you think of people, rules, truth, God, and anything else meaningful will determine how you act.

The great battles of our country come down to how we accept truth. Is truth based on how we feel, or founded on something deeper regardless of how we feel? When we think of truth in the terms of how we feel, we’re going to think its ok to do things that go against God’s Word because it will feel right. It won’t lead to life, blessings, or freedom, but it will feel good in the moment. When we base our thoughts and worldview on the correct bases of truth, the Bible, it’s then that our thoughts and actions lead to life.

When we struggle with sin, one of the most powerful and effective prayers we could pray is for God to renew our mind. When we ask Him to change the way we think, it will change the way we act. God’s will for our lives is pleasing and perfect. God’s way brings freedom and joy. Our way, doing things the way we feel and think is good, leads to messes, trouble, and ultimately death. Give this concept a try! Pick an area in your life and ask God to change the way you think about it to reflect His ways. Find what the Bible has to say about that topic and see if life doesn’t improve. Our thoughts are the gateway to action. If you want life, let the Holy Spirit change your thoughts.
