One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Samuel 13:1-39
John 17:1-26
Psalm 119:81-96
Proverbs 16:6-7

Verse of the day:

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-21)

Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus prayed for you.  It happened just hours before He was betrayed by Judas, underwent a mockery of a trial and suffered death on the cross.

Jesus said, “I pray also for those who will believe in me” (John 17:20a NIV).  If you are a Christian, you are included.

His prayer for believers is “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (v. 20b-21).

Jesus petitioned the Father for unity.  He prayed that believers would have a continuous spiritual solidarity.

This unity includes each one having a personal relationship with Christ (v. 23), experiencing God’s love (v. 26), being separated from the evil in culture (v. 14-16) and growth through knowledge of biblical truths (v. 16).

When there is unity amongst Christ followers, it increases the potential for unbelievers to understand what Christ did for them.
