One Year Bible Reading Guide:
Deuteronomy 4:1-49
Luke 6:39-7:10
Psalm 68:1-18
Proverbs 11:28
Verse of the day:
Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)
Why do we always like to over complicate things? Why do we always over analyze and try to add further explanation to things that are relatively simple?
When Jesus was asked what the “most important commandment” was, he did not give a long discourse or list 100 ways to please God. He just listed the two commandments that summed up all the others – Love God first, then Love others. Simple.
Moses handed the Ten Commandments to the nation of Israel giving them a code of conduct to govern their lives. He gave commands through the book of Leviticus that laid out simple instructions for daily life. I love his appeal to the people. He asks them to simply obey; don’t add to or take away from. Don’t try and find the margins, edges or limits. Don’t look for the grey areas, minimums or places where you can just get by. Just obey.
