To Be Known By God
Posted: Tuesday, October 3
Verse of the Day:
The Lord gave me this message: “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5)
Once you have a child, your perspective on things completely changes. My wife and I recently saw a movie that focused heavily on the relationship between a daughter and father. Before I had my daughter, I would have thought it was a nice, solid movie. But because I have my own baby girl and could picture us in the situation, it’s one of the few times I’ve teared up in a movie! If you’re a parent, you know what I mean!
To be known is a desire we all crave. Some long for mass attention, while others only need to be known by a few. That inherit quality is part of what makes us human, a community driven people, and was put there by God. So to be told by the ultimate being, God, our father and designer, that we were known before we were even born carries genuine peace and comfort. It’s more than a happy thought, it’s truth.
These verses from Jeremiah carry weight for the fight for the unborn, that every person matters regardless of skin color or social status, and for the necessity for the Gospel to reach all people. You are valuable to God. Jeremiah had a specific calling on his life as a Prophet to Jews, and God has a specific calling for your life too. However you’re feeling about yourself and place in life, know that you are exceptionally valuable to God. Even before you were born, you were know by God, the best version of a father, and are loved more than you could ever know. Relish in the truth that you were set apart and your life has meaning, because you are known by God.
