Money, The Root Of Evil

1 Timothy 6:1-21
Verse of the Day:
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10)
Money is fun! Having money brings all sorts of new perspectives - freedom, experiences, peace. I’d be lying if I didn’t have thoughts about what I’d do if I won 15 million dollars. But as someone wise once said, “Mo money mo problems.”
Have you heard the phrase, “Money is the root of all evil?” That saying originates from the Bible. As 1 Timothy describes it, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. The desire for more money can push us to do things we wouldn’t normally do, and inevitably turn us into someone we don’t want to become.
The initial pursuit of money isn’t wrong. We need money to survive. It becomes dangerous and stems evil when we allow it to trump all other motivations. The moment we allow money to be our singular focus is the moment we slip into a dark path. Rarely is it intentional, but when we feed the craving for more, it tempts us to do things we normally wouldn’t do. Whether your already stacked with cash and just want more, or the bank is filled with pennies and you dream of a better day, this application applies to us all. Instead, lather yourself with a spirit of gratitude. Everything we have comes from God, and when we recognize that it’s because of God’s allowance that we even have anything, our spirits will remain in a much healthier place.
