Verse of the Day:

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection. (Proverbs 30:5)

My daughter is 2 years old and just about potty trained. At this point, it’s very rare that she has an accident because she earnestly looks forward to getting a bubble bath if she stays dry all day. What she has learned in this potty training experiment is that if she yells “Potty!” she can get our attention no matter what we’re doing - whether she truly has to go or not. Last week my wife was talking to someone at church and Chloe wanted Steph to talk to her, so she yelled, “Potty!” but of course didn’t need to go. As a parent, what do you do! You never want to risk an accident, but when our little girl cries wolf to many times, it’s hard to know when to trust her!

The reassuring truth in today’s Proverb is that God’s word is much more consistent than Chloe’s. Proverbs tells us that EVERY word of God proves true. Every single one! That means when the hundreds of prayers, hours before God, meals sacrificed in fasting will be honored by God if He has made a promise. It’s hard to believe that in the midst of a battle, but the truth from Scripture always proves true.

Our responsibility on this side of the covenant with God is knowing what He’s said. Without knowing what He’s said, we can never know what to expect or what to ask of God. At times we can be frustrated thinking God isn’t answering our prayer the way we expect them to be answered, when the truth is God says it doesn’t work like that. Our comfort can come by knowing that if our prayers align with what God has promised He will do, we can bank on those words never failing!
