Never Stop Talking

1 Corinthians 16:1-24
Verse of the Day:
Verse of the day: “Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.” (Psalm 40:5)
I work with a lot of amazing, sweet and exceptionally funny Preschool children. As I read through this passage of scripture for today, I couldn’t help but think of one child in particular who greets me many times with a massive smile on their face saying, “I love to talk! I talk all the time! I NEVER stop talking!” And while many might see these statements coming out of a 5 year-old’s mouth to be problematic, I see both humor and an enormous opportunity.
In this Psalm, David begins by talking about how God lifted him up “out of the mud and mire”. God placed him in a better position than he was in on his own. And because of that, he has a new song to sing. But he doesn’t want to keep this song to himself: he wants everyone to know what God brought him through and what God brought him to. I love how the Message Bible reads in verses 9 & 10, “I TOLD IT ALL.” David did not hold back in talking about the goodness and the greatness of our God.
So, when I look at David and I look at this sweet little one who “loves to talk”, I can’t help but think about what an enormous responsibility we have to talk about how great God is and to hold nothing back. See, kids tend to do and say what is modeled for them. When you take a child who loves to talk and you tell them about God’s faithfulness, provision, and unfailing love, they just can’t help but do the same. And they don’t just tell you about God’s love; they tell their friends, neighbors, bus drivers, and even their stuffed animals. They want everyone to know what they know! Kids tell it all!
