One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Genesis 28:1-29:35
Matthew 9:18-38
Psalm 11:1-7
Proverbs 3:11-12

Verse of the Day:

He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

One of the worst things ever is when someone calls into work and you have to pick up their slack. I worked at Cousin’s Subs as a teenager and this happened all of the time. It’s a quick scramble to cover the work of two people all while keeping your sanity. If you’re a manager, you can feel the frustration of this even more. All of the responsibility falls on you to make sure the job gets covered and that your other employees don’t get too frazzled. The joys of not having enough help!

It’s interesting that if you’ve ever been in this situation, Jesus has felt the same way. While traveling through towns and villages teaching and healing people, Scripture tells us that Jesus looked at the crowds with compassion. His feelings came from watching droves of people confused and helpless. Here they were, broken, hurting and with no one to point them in the right direction. He tells his disciples in plain terms, there’s a great need in our world but not enough help. Pray that people will step up to help other people!

God likes to use people to do amazing things. God doesn’t need our help, but it’s an honor and privilege to be used by God to make major impacts. Every Sunday morning I get to pray with the Elementary volunteer team that God would use us to be exactly what these kids need, both in word and actions. God wants to use you because there is a great need to reach people! This can be done at work, at church, in the grocery store, pumping gas, or wherever you are. People need to know that there is a God who loves them and that He has a wonderful plan for their life. Will you join Jesus’ team and become someone who works for the Kingdom of God? To be used by God actually takes word, and there is great need of us!
