One Year Bible Reading Guide:

2 Kings 9:14-10:31
Acts 17:1-34
Psalm 144:1-15
Proverbs 17:27-28

Verse of the day:

He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me. (Psalm 144:2)

In a different translation “He is my loving ally” is stated as, “He is my goodness.” When we blend these two thoughts together we realize a couple of things. First, we have nothing good aside from what God gives us—His goodness. Secondly, we realize that He isn’t just a protector, He is a “loving ally”—not just there for us out of duty, but rather out of love and concern for our wellbeing.

In those times in our lives when the oppressor is attacking, God is our rescuer and places us in a tower of safety—a place where we are secure from the attack of the enemy. A place where we can find rest and experience healing and peace—a peace that can only come from God. He surrounds us with His impenetrable shield, and it’s there we find our refuge.

So in those times when you feel overwhelmed by the challenges of life—when all you can see are dark skies—remember you are not alone. There is one full of goodness who loves you and is there to protect you—providing a safe haven for you. And not only protect, but one who will put the enemy under your feet—and that one is God. He is so much more than a friend.
