One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Isaiah 10:1-11:16
2 Corinthians 12:11-21
Psalm 56:1-13
Proverbs 23:6-8

Verse of the day:

The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.                                                                                  (Isaiah 11:6)

The other day we went to the zoo where I saw a grizzly bear staring at his neighbor, the elk.  I’m pretty sure this bear didn’t want to lay down with the elk.  He wasn’t admiring his large antlers either.  He was thinking, elk steak, mmm. He wanted to eat him.  Thus, the seperate enclosures at the zoo.

What a picture of peace is given in the above verse.  Predator and prey lay down together in peace like it was before the fall.   Then it says “a little child will lead them”.  Isaiah talks about a child in Isaiah 9:6 too when he says “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,…And he will be called…Prince of Peace.”

Jesus is the Prince of Peace.  He is the one who brings peace into lives and situations.  And not only does He bring peace in that way but one day He will bring peace to the world like it was before the fall when the lion laid down with the lamb.  He will deliver us from the chaos, confusion, catastrophe and commotion of this world into His glorious place of rest.

As a Christian, aren’t you glad for His peace?  If you don’t know the Prince of Peace, Jesus, ask Him into your life today.  He will bring with Him His perfect peace and His promise of peace to come.  I’ll close with the words of an old hymn we sang in the church I grew up in.

   Wonderful Peace

And I think when I rise to that city of peace,

Where the Anchor of peace I shall see,

That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing

In that heavenly kingdom will be:

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,

Coming down from the Father above!

Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray

In fathomless billows of love!
