Rejected at Home
Posted: Wednesday, February 22
There’s a challenge that comes with following Christ that you may share with believers around world.
In many cultures, communities disown those who declare faith in Christ. The choice to believe is seen as a rejection of heritage, family and traditional worship.
If you came from a religious background other than following Christ, there’s a good chance your decision was met with resistance from those who are closest to you.
You have something in common with Jesus if you experienced rejection from those who know you best.
While Jesus was transforming lives in one community after another, He was dismissed in His hometown.
Rather than celebrating His return, the people who watched Jesus grow up were offended by His teaching and ministry. In turn, “He was amazed at their unbelief” (Mark 6:6 NIV).
To others, it may feel like you’re rejecting your upbringing and their love for you.
Let me encourage you to remember your own journey to Christ when you experience frustration with loved ones who push back. Chances are, it took you weeks, months or even years before you understood what Christ did for you.
Allow people to see the transformation in your own life. Pray for them. Love them. Trust that your Heavenly Father will provide opportunities for you to share the hope you have in Christ.
