Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.  My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:24-25)

Here in this passage Jesus used the image of a seed to illustrate an important spiritual truth.  A seed, unless it is planted, is useless.  However, when it is planted, it dies and then becomes fruitful.  Jesus was referring to His own death and resurrection which God would get the glory and much fruit would abound.  Through Jesus’ surrender of His own life the world shall be saved.

God’s children are like seeds, small and insignificant by themselves.  The life that his children have in them is God’s life but can never be fruitful unless fully surrendered.  God wants to plant you.  He wants to use you to give life to others.  Hating your life is allowing God to plant you.  When planted, you will be fruitful for eternal things. When you are planted you will serve God instead of yourself.
