Rules From A Loving Father
Posted: Tuesday, March 29
Verse of the day:
Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. (Deuteronomy 11:1)
Most teenagers don’t like curfews, especially if their curfew is earlier than their friends. Parents see it differently.
“Nothing good happens after midnight,” my dad used to say.
Teens may feel that mom and dad are out to sabotage their social life. In reality, love is the motivating factor behind family rules. Many who grew up without rules would likely tell you that their home lacked love at some level.
Out of love, God establishes rules for His followers.
“Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always” (Deuteronomy 11:1 NIV).
It’s not enough to just know the rules. We display our love for God when we live within the boundaries He has set for us.
We know what is morally right and wrong. We know taking advantage of another person is at odds with God’s plan for relationships. We know that chasing lustful appetites will never be satisfying. We know it is wrong to envy, steal and lie.
God did not give us "requirements, decrees, laws and commands" to spoil our fun. Rather, He is a loving Father. God desires to protect us from behaviors, lifestyles and appetites that will ultimately lead to our own physical, emotional and spiritual destruction.
