John 7:31-53
Psalm 109:1-31
Proverbs 15:5-7

Verse of the day:

Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (John 7:37-38)

(If you’re someone who can multi-task by reading and listening to a song, I recommend reading this devo while listening to “Open Up The Heavens” by Meredith Andrews. It’s a worship song we sing at church. Here’s a YouTube video of the song:

I sure do love a nice cold glass of Mountain Dew. If there was only one thing left on this planet for me to drink, my hope is that it is Mountain Dew. Some call it poison, I call it liquid gold. Of course, I only drink diet because that’s healthier (wink wink).

When Jesus said that anyone who is thirsty should come to him, He wasn’t handing out 20oz bottles of Mountain Dew. Rather, He’s speaking of becoming satisfied internally. What Jesus has to offer us, no person or thing can ever match. He can completely and utterly satisfy a person’s heart. But did you notice that Jesus said the person has to be thirsty? In order for someone to experience what Jesus has, they have to want it! It seems easy enough to be “thirsty” for Jesus, but it’s more than wanting a sip. It’s recognizing the seriousness of our sin and having a deep desire for Jesus to do whatever He wants within our lives!

Just as we need water daily, so also our souls need to be quenched by the living water. Today, ask Jesus to be your source of life! Let Him lead and guide you in every step you take. Let his thoughts and desires become your thoughts and desires. Whenever you drink something today, ask Jesus to fill your soul with his living water! Be fulfilled by Jesus!
