2 Chronicles 1:1-3:17
Romans 6:1-23
Psalm 16:1-11
Proverbs 19:20-21

Verse of the day:

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. (Romans 6:16)

I don’t know about you but the word Slave has a weird feel as it crosses my lips. It seems to be a word that his heavy with the past and coated with a film or residue of something I cannot quit get a grip on. I don’t care for the word too much. It holds a mental picture of a past that our nation is still struggling with or a future of the sex-trade that is alive and well; both making the word feel tainted.

So if we have such a distaste for the word slave, then why do we make ourselves slaves – willingly? We allow sin to dominate our lives by our own choice. We are not forced to choose the slippery, tainted ways of sin. We are not taken captive and forced against our will to obey our sinful urges. We give into them very willingly. We truly are slaves, chained to the consequences of our bad choices and weak wills.

And it all comes down to a simple choice. We can chose freedom or slavery. Why then do we not make the simple choice of right actions and right living? Why do we always seem to go the slippery way of sin? Because we are a fallen people in need of a helping hand from the One who has never been a slave to anything or anyone. The only One who is the master over all because he made the choice to live a sinless life? Jesus wants to be your hand up today. Let him give you the freedom you are longing to choose. It is your choice – slave or free. You cannot sit this one out. You must choose.
