Discipline Is Your Friend

1 Chronicles 28:1-29:30
Verse of the day:
Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives. (Proverbs 19:18 NLT)
Growing up, whenever my parents would discipline me (i.e. spankings), they would say ‘this is going to hurt me more than it’s going to hurt you’. I never believed them! But now that I’m a parent I think they were telling the truth.
I take no joy when moments arise where I have to discipline my daughters. Krista, Morgan and I are buddies and they don’t like me very much when I have to correct them. Like any small children they are discovering their limits and I have a moral obligation to teach them what is right and wrong from a Biblical perspective. Truthfully, it would often be easier to look the other way instead of confronting them but that would not be the loving thing to do.
Discipline is not punishment; it is training and directing us to a better future. Discipline is our friend when it comes to diet and exercise. Discipline is our friend when it comes to handling money. Discipline is our friend when it comes to the words we speak. Discipline is our friend when it comes to our thoughts and feelings. I could go on and on…
