One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Judges 4:1-5:31
Luke 22:35-53
Psalm 94:1-23
Proverbs 14:3-4

Verse of the day:

Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. (Psalm 94:17)

Psalm 94:16-19 says “Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.  When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”  Psalm 121:1-2 says “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

There is a lot of talk about superheroes these days with one big superhero movie last month and one big superhero movie next month with more to come.  The toy aisles in the store have lots and lots of superhero toys on their shelves.  In Kids Church we are doing a series with a superhero theme called “Be the Hero”.  People like superheroes because they come to the rescue and save the day.  The only problem is they are not real.  But Jesus is real.  He is the ultimate real-life superhero.  What has been imagined that fictional superheroes have done, Jesus has really done.  It’s said that Superman flies.  Jesus flew up into the clouds.  It’s said that Storm commands the weather. Jesus calmed the storm.  It’s said that the Flash can run across water.  Jesus walked on water.  It’s said that the Professor X can read minds. Jesus knew what the Pharisees and Sadducees were thinking. It’s said that Aquaman can talk to sea creatures.  Jesus created the sea creatures. In fact Jesus created everything.

Our scriptures ask some questions. “Who will rise up...?”  “Who will take a stand…?”  “…Where does my help come from?” The Lord, that’s who, “the Lord, maker of Heaven and Earth”.   Who will come to the rescue?  Who will save the day?  Jesus will.  He is not make believe like the comic book superheroes or limited in power like the heroes around us in our daily lives.  Jesus is the all-powerful, ultimate, real-life superhero and he came to our rescue when He died for our sins.  And He is right there to save the day every day.  If you need help today, call out to the Lord, “the Maker of Heaven and Earth” in prayer.  No Bat-signal needed.
