Let Love Come To Life
Posted: Tuesday, December 5
I learned a new joke this week. (ahem) 12 frogs are sitting on a log. One decides to jump off. How many frogs are still on the log? (dramatic pause) Twelve. There are still 12 frogs because ‘deciding’ is not the same as ‘doing.’ It’s not a great joke, but the point is meaningful.
In the book of Luke, Jesus tells the story of a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. Along his journey, the man is attacked, robbed, stripped of his clothing, and left for dead. Many pass by. Only one stops. Only one ‘does’ something.
Let’s create a short list of the recent national news stories and the victims within their headline. Millions are still suffering the destruction of hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria. Thousands are mourning the death of mass shooting victims in California, Texas, and Nevada. One in three women in America have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.
Some fascinating articles have been written about these events. Some lively discussions have illuminated on social media.
But . . .
But as the people of God, ‘talking’ about caring is only the first step. ‘Sharing’ your concern is only the first step. Our love must come to life. We all know people that are suffering this Christmas season. Ask God for direction, and let your love come to life.
