August 17 Reading:

Nehemiah 12:27-13:31
1 Corinthians 11:1-16
Psalm 35:1-16
Proverbs 21:17-18

Verse of the day

“With every bone in my body, I will praise Him; ‘Lord, who can compare with you?’” (Psalm 35:10 NLT)

I recently had the opportunity to see a physical therapist about some stubborn knots in my right shoulder. (Don’t worry. This isn’t going to turn into an awkward moment where I overshare my medical history.) The therapist introduced me to a new technique called dry needling. It’s not acupuncture because it’s far deeper. I’m talking 3-inch needles inserted into muscle tissue. (Don’t get dizzy. Stay with me.)

The idea is that when trouble runs deep, external massage can only do so much. You need to reach the depth of the trauma. Break it up, and let it heal.

When I have the opportunity for true, personal, cathartic, soul-shaping worship, this is my prayer every time. Praise deep. Let my gratitude and my submission run past the shallow lines of my outer shell. Let my soul breath deep. Let every bone in my body, praise Him.

I believe the depth of our praise empowers the depth of our transformation. “With every bone in my body, I will praise Him; ‘Lord, who can compare with you?’”
