That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.” (Acts 23:11)
Paul believed God wanted him to preach in both Jerusalem and Rome. While in Jerusalem, he found himself in front of the Jewish Council. The Council was composed of both Pharisees and Sadducees and they wanted Paul dead. Paul knew it. So he brought up the subject of the resurrection with the intention of gaining the favor of the Pharisees. After Paul did this, mayhem ensued. The Council was at war and Paul was in the middle of it.
What do you think Paul was thinking at the time? Was he wondering if he should’ve kept his big mouth shut? Was he concerned for his safety? It must have been something like that because that “night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, ‘Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.’” This message assured Paul that he was going to be able to make it to Rome. Paul was reminded once more that his future was in God’s hands.
If you are going through some difficult times, if you feel discouraged, or if you feel concerned about your future, I have good news for you. God is reminding you today that He is in control of your future. Trust Him!
