One Year Bible Reading Guide:

Deuteronomy 16:1-17:20
Luke 9:7-27
Psalm 72:1-20
Proverbs 12:8-9

Verse of the day:

Never sacrifice sick or defective cattle, sheep, or goats to the Lord your God, for he detests such gifts. (Deuteronomy 17:1)

You can bet I’ve had a few heated conversations about worship over the years. There’s always the peripheral conversations about style, instrumentation, and volume. The harder conversations cut deep at message and motivation. Emotions certainly run high with this subject and rightfully so. Loving saints care greatly about the praise we offer to God.

Here’s the truth. There is a right way and a wrong way to worship God. God didn’t leave us with an open-ended request to “worship however you see fit.” He left us with specific instructions how to approach God and what to bring with us. In Genesis 4, Cain and Able offer worship to God. One offering is pleasing, and the other is not. We cannot bring our leftovers. We cannot bring our half-hearted efforts. We can’t even bring our well-meaning efforts that are clouded by immaturity or selfishness. We must worship in the light of God’s expressed desires. The Bible is full of inspiring and challenging guidance to worship God the ‘right’ way. Here’s a good place to start today…

Romans 12:1-2 // And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
