The Song of Praise Breaks Through
Posted: Saturday, February 4
Verse of the day:
Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. (Psalm 28:6-7)
When we go through struggles in life, there is that period of time when you think the darkness will never lift. But then God’s loving mercy breaks through like that morning sunrise—you feel the warmth of his grace across your face and somehow everything is different.
What was it that changed in that narrow sliver of time just before light and warmth invaded that dark place you felt trapped in? I think it’s when we decide, as David did, to “Praise the Lord” in spite of the circumstances. It’s in that moment when we shift our focus from the struggle to the one who says, “Peace, be still…,” that we feel surrounded by God’s strength and protection, and that veil of darkness is shattered.
As His help arrives, our faith and trust are bolstered—our heart is filled with “Joy” and our only response is to “burst out in songs of thanksgiving”.
So the next time you feel you are heading to a dark place, remember the exercise that David employed in this Psalm and “Praise the Lord”—there is a good chance the sunrise will arrive sooner rather than later.
