This Is Really Important

1 Samuel 2:22-4:22
Verse of the day:
I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. (John 5:24)
A 911 operator relaying CPR instructions over the phone. The employer explaining details of a project that could make or break the company’s budget. Mom telling a toddler not to go near the hot stove.
“Listen to me carefully,” we might say. “This is really important.”
We add emphasis to make sure the listener understands exactly what we have to say. We change the tone and intensity of our voice.
At times, Jesus added emphasis to make it clear that what he was about to say included critical information.
“Very truly I tell you,” (John 5:24 NIV) Jesus said to the religious elite who were plotting against Him. Other versions of the Bible translate this phrase as “I assure you”, “I guarantee this truth” and, simply, “Amen”.
Jesus wanted the listeners to pay careful attention.
Then he said, “whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
The assurance of eternal life through Jesus is available to all. Jesus' main purpose in communicating was not to outwit opponents, win arguments or impress the crowds with His knowledge. He wanted people to understand how they could have victory over death.
