Value of Being a Christian

Verse of the day:
“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!" (Matthew 13:45-46 NLT)
I’ve always wanted a metal detector. Since a kid, I thought it would be a blast to go out into some random beach or park and swing that detector back and forth searching for buried treasure. There’s something mysterious and curious about treasure. One of my favorite memories as a kid had to do with buried treasure on an island! My grandparents owned a cabin up north along the lake with a smile island in the middle of the lake. Supposedly my Grandpa found a map that lead to buried treasure! He took me on the boat and we headed to the island. Sure enough, the map lead to a giant ‘X.’ Shovels in hand, we dug up 2 mason jars filled with coins! Genuine buried treasure! I was the richest 5 year old in the world!
Jesus shares a parable comparing the value of becoming a Christian and discovering treasure. In this allegorical story, Jesus opens it with a merchant on the lookout. People are constantly on the hunt for truth. Often times people fabricate truth to serve their desires, when the truth that Christianity brings is as pure as it gets. As the story continues, the merchant finds a pearl of great value, likened to someone discovering the wonder of Christianity. The man then sells everything he owns, giving up his previous lifestyle, to purchase this pearl.
The value of Christianity is immeasurable. When we truly discover the value that Jesus has, we ought to be like the merchant who gave up everything he had for this new found treasure. The truth found within scripture sets people free. Our entire lifestyle is changed by this discovery and makes life better. Everything becomes an upgrade. Becoming a Christian means change, and change is hard, but it’s necessary change to grasp the full worth. Becoming a Christian is the greatest treasure man can discover in this life. Share that treasure and soak in the truth that you have been set free.
