Where is Your Focus?
Posted: Monday, October 7
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2)
As much as I love summer, we are entering into one of my favorite times of year. I love sweater weather, the changing leaves, the fall desserts, and all the preparation and thought (and shopping) that goes into celebrating the upcoming holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is a busy time of year in my personal life and in my life here at the church with extra activities and fun things to be a part of. It is easy in these fun, busy seasons of life to lose our focus.
Colossians 3:1-2 reminds us that while all of these activities and celebrations are great they shouldn’t cause us to take our focus off of our future with Christ. As a believer eternity should always be the lens in which we view things. When our focus is on Christ and what is eternal it changes how we live out our days while we are here on earth. We make decisions differently. We treat others with more grace and love. We live on mission.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying the life that you have here on earth. I hope you do love and enjoy your life, but this life is not all there is. In light of eternity is there anything you should be doing differently today? Take a moment and pray about that question.
