Are You Ready?

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.
(Isaiah 61: 1)
A few weeks ago in Youth, I preached a message about Coffin Missionaries. I explained how these anointed people were called to the missions field knowing they might be martyred for their faith. They packed a casket as their suitcase, because there was a strong chance they would be sent back in it, or buried on the front lines of the mission field.
The Spirit of the Lord was upon them, and He should be upon you. The Lord has a calling on all of our lives, but the question is, are you listening to what He is saying? The Lord called you by name. He knows who you are, and is waiting for ALL of His children to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to others. If the anointing of the Holy Spirit is upon us, and we have the GOOD NEWS, then why aren't we going to the poor, the unreached, the lost to share it? This doesn’t mean you have to pack a casket and go to far off lands. It could mean that, but it also means walking across the floor, or the cafeteria, to share Christ with that coworker or classmate, the Lord has laid on your heart.
As followers of Christ, it is our obligation to comfort the brokenhearted. We are to take the Gospel to the captives. Matthew 28:19–20 contains what has come to be called the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This means we are called to the people of this world, the ones who don’t know the wages of sin is death. Our calling is to show them, tell them, and bring the love of Jesus, so they will no longer be prisoners to what they don’t know, and can receive the love of Jesus. Christ is their freedom, and realize you ARE anointed, and CALLED to bring this good news.
One of those early Coffin Missionaries went to a village. He was told that he would be hunted and killed, yet this anointed man stood strong for his faith. 35 years later, the people of the village buried him in the center of the village. On his tombstone it read,”When he came there was no light, but when he left there was no darkness.”
The Lord is on your side. Are you ready to comfort the brokenhearted? Take a step out in faith, and watch the power of the Holy Spirit work as you speak through obedience.
