2 Samuel 17:1-29 John 19:23-42 Psalm 119:129-152 Proverbs 16:12-13
Verse of the day:
“Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them!” (Psalm 119: 129)
Have you ever played Monopoly? Since its inception, over one billion people have sat down to play this classic board game—the paper money, the little green houses, and the orange “chance” cards. Imagine, however, what it would feel like to open this game for the first time. And to alter your experience, what if the box you purchased did not include a copy of the rules?
Whether it’s a board game, a new recipe, or our very lives, there is only one legitimate rulebook—the one written by the creator. The one who made the game is the only one who holds the authority to instruct its execution. How lost would we be to open the pieces of our lives and make up the rules as we go along? How many times would we self-destruct? How many times would we self-injure before uncovering the true purpose of the game?
God’s law is the deliverance to our folly. To follow His ways is to rescue ourselves from a hundred dead ends and a thousand misguided intentions. No wonder David says, “I pant with expectation longing for your commands.” Praise God for the revelation of his law!
